'Johnson waarschuwt Merkel voor harde brexit'

LONDEN (ANP) De Britse premier Johnson heeft de Duitse bondskanselier Merkel gewaarschuwd dat Groot-Brittannië geen handelsdeal met de EU zal sluiten als Brussel niet bereid is tot compromissen. Dat meldt persbureau Bloomberg. Johnson zei tegen Merkel dat Groot-Brittannië klaar is voor een harde brexit.
Gisteren vond informeel overleg plaats tussen Britse en EU-onderhandelaars. De Britten zijn begin dit jaar uit de EU gestapt maar zijn tot eind dit jaar nog gebonden aan de EU-regels. De onderhandelingen over een handelsakkoord verlopen stroef, onder meer vanwege meningsverschillen rond visserijrechten en de invloed van Europese gerechtshoven op Britse wetgeving. Het kantoor van Johnson verklaarde later dat de Britse regering toegewijd is aan het bereiken van een handelsovereenkomst, maar ook klaar is voor een harde brexit.
